Klaus Monkemuller, MD, PhD, Professor, Hirschowitz Endoscopy Center Director

rsz_dr_monkemuller Dr. Monkemuller is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Basil I. Hirschowitz Endoscopic Center of Excellence. He received his medical degree from the University of Francisco Marroquin, in Guatemala City, Guatemala and completed residency at the University of Tennessee, in Memphis, where he also served as chief medical resident for one year. He completed his fellowship training in gastroenterology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and then joined the faculty as an assistant professor. Then he was director of endoscopy and associate professor at the Division of Gastroenterology at the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany, where he also obtained his PhD. At The Marien Hospital, Bottrop he was promoted to director of Internal Medicine/gastroenterology.


Dr Monkemuller is a leading expert in GASTROINTESTINAL ENDOSCOPY, including all aspects of advanced imaging and therapeutics and minimal endoluminal endoscopic interventions for disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon and pancreatobiliary tract. Because of this he has been invited to participate and teach at the major live endoscopy meetings worldwide. Dr. Monkemuller  serves on several editorial boards of scholarly journals including  Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy among others.
