Kondal Rao Kyanam Kabir Baig, MD, has joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology as an assistant professor. He recently completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida. A graduate of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India, he completed an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, Shreveport.
Dr. Kyanam performs diagnostic and interventional endosonography, endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography, and endoscopic mucosal resection of lesions in esophagus, stomach, duodenum and colon. He has an additional interest in advanced endoluminal endoscopy such as complex stricture dilation, fistula closure, and over the scope clip use for different indications.
His research interests include early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and pancreatic juice markers as surrogates for diagnosis of malignant and benign pancreatic disease. He is also exploring the clinical utility of the over the scope clip (bear claw) for various indications such as complete endoscopic removal of submucosal lesions, closure of fistulae and perforations, and therapy of recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding from visible vessels and dieulafoy lesions. Additional interests include clinical, endoscopic, genetic and molecular characterization of large polyps, particularly serrated polyps.
