Dr. Korf also created a Web-based educational site, www.understandingnf1.org, that provides resources including a video counseling session, interviews with patients and family members, and a photo glossary for patients and families throughout the world. The UAB NF Program conducts annual NF Awareness Symposia to provide the latest information to patients and family members about the condition.
The UAB NF Program is directed by Dr. Bruce Korf, a medical geneticist and neurologist and a physician-scientist internationally renowned for his work on NF. He is the chair of the UAB Department of Genetics and director of the UAB Heflin Center for Genomic Sciences. Dr. Korf has more than 25 years of experience in patient care, research, and education in neurofibromatosis and he serves as principal investigator of the Department of Defense-funded NF Consortium. He also is chair of the national Medical Advisory Committee of the Children's Tumor Foundation.

Gifts from visionary philanthropic partners will remain vital to our efforts as we move forward and increase our status as a leader in laboratory research and the treatment of patients with NF. Under Dr. Bruce Korf's leadership, we have an ambitious plan to aggressively recruit leading physicians and scientists to UAB, allow current researchers at UAB to accelerate their research efforts, and provide vital funding to initiate innovative research projects studying NF. In the near future we plan to expand the number of physicians, scientists, and research projects aimed at new discoveries in NF. The future is bright, and UAB looks forward to playing a leading role in finding new treatments and a cure for NF.
