The UAB Center for Glial Biology in Medicine trains researchers for a career in the emerging field of glial biology. Training opportunities are available for students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty. By providing trainees with unique access to transgenic model systems and unique core services, they are well equipped to pursue novel research into aspects of glial biology relevant to disease processes. A  weekly journal club meets each Thursday to discuss current glial-related research and associated publications. In addition the Glial Center collaborates with various UAB academic departments and their regular seminar series which include prominent glial biologists from around the world. The Center also hosts a bi-annual international conference on glial biology and its relevance to brain function, development and neurological disease.
