Preparing for Your First Visit

TKC_lobby_for_webA cancer diagnosis brings with it an overwhelming amount of information.  The information below will help you better prepare for your first visit to a Hematology/Oncology physician at UAB.

What to Bring
When you come to your appointment at any UAB facility, please bring your insurance card, a list of any prescription and over the counter medications that you are currently taking, any pertinent medical records/medical information that have not already been sent to our office by your referring physician, and a copy of your physician referral, if needed.

Billing and Insurance
UAB accepts most forms of insurance; however, check with us to make sure that your particular coverage is approved. When you visit, please bring the proper insurance identification cards so that we can submit your claims to your insurance company. If you are required to file personally for your company's insurance, we will provide you with all necessary forms to file your own claim. When your visit is completed, you will be expected to pay any charges that will not be reimbursed by insurance (e.g. co-payments and deductibles), unless you have made prior arrangements with one of our financial counselors. Because your insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company, it is your responsibility to obtain any physician referral precertification that your insurance company requires in order for your visit to be covered.

Child Care
So that our medical staff may provide you with the expert care and undivided attention you deserve, please make arrangements for someone to supervise any children who might accompany you on your visit.

Pharmacy
Pharmacies are located throughout UAB facilities, including UAB Hospital and The Kirklin Clinic.
The convenient Kirklin Clinic Pharmacy is located on the second floor of the Clinic and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
