The Healthcare Leadership Academy includes classroom sessions, off-site team projects and experiential learning activities designed to identify and strengthen leadership skills and capabilities. The inaugural program began in January 2009 with an opening retreat of 1.5 days, followed by monthly sessions (1 day per month February through June ), participation in group projects with team members throughout the summer, and concluded with a closing retreat (1 day).
Approximately 80 hours of in class participation is required as well as participation on a team project pertinent to the Medical Center/Health System which will be performed during the same time span but on time designated by the team members. It is estimated that this will take an additional six hours per month. Each team has an institutional leader serving as a mentor and meets with the team members monthly.
