Research interests

Alan M. Stamm is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Division of General Internal Medicine and the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health. Dr. Stamm joined the faculty at UAB in 1980 and has played an active role as a clinician-educator. He attends on services in University Hospital, the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Hospital, and the Cooper Green Hospital. He has been Director of the Primary Care Training Track since 1988 and an Assistant Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program since 1997. Dr. Stamm is involved broadly in the institution’s quality improvement initiatives. He has been Chair of the UAB Health System Infection Control Committee since 1986. He is engaged with faculty from several other departments on projects to reduce the incidence of health care associated infections associated with devices and procedures. In June 2006 he was named a Top 10 Teacher by the Department of Medicine.
