The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Ophthalmology announces Dr. Srinivas R Sadda as the 4th speaker in their 2012-2013 Lecture Series in Visual Science. Dr. Sadda is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern California's School of Medicine and his lecture is entitled "Imaging the Choroid: The Next Frontier". The Department of Biomedical Engineering announces BME 443/543 Medical Image Processing will be offered Spring Semester 2013. This will be the second year the course is being offered. Initial reports following the Spring semester of 2012 were very favorable.

The Department of Vision Science announces a new course - VIS 455/755 Electronics for Biologists. This course is designed to provide a practical guide for biological scientists for electronics and signal processing, with the emphasis being on the appropriate use of electronic instrumentation and signal processing techniques to perform electrophysiological experiments. Theory is covered only to the extent that it is needed to intelligently set up or evaluate biological experiments.

This course will allow students to explore techniques, such as single and multi cell recordings, deep brain stimulation, electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography, functional magnetic resonance imaging, and diffusion tensor imaging
