Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program                        Excellence Without Ego

Focusing on Diversity

Group photoUAB is a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social and economic benefit of Birmingham, the state and beyond.  It is the mission of the university to increase, retain and enhance faculty, student and staff diversity at all levels of the University and to ensure equity.

The Diversity Enrichment Committee leads the effort to promote diversity in the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Training.  Our goal is to increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority residents to our institution, foster relationships amongst current underrepresented minority residents and faculty, and support the university-wide efforts to diversity at UAB.

The activities of the Diversity Enrichment Committee include:
  •          Minority recruitment during residency / fellowship interview season
  •          Networking events amongst house staff, fellows and faculty
  •          Establishment of a minority resident-student mentoring program
  •          Helping to address the medical needs of UAB's diverse patient population
  •          Attendance of Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Annual Conferences
