Biomedical Informatics is the art and science of collection, representation and analysis of information for the purpose of improving human health. Informatics application span the spectrum from molecular (bioinformatics) to organism (clinical informatics). This Course will examine the scientific field that underlies the development of tools and methids applied to the biomedical domain. The course will include lectures, readings from textbook and journal papers, a term paper reviewimg some area of informatics research (including Health Informatics and Nursing Informatics) as well as students who would like to explore the possiblity of an informatics research career. Includes 2.5 hour web-based session each week to be done asynchronously.

Student will learn how to read, present and critique primary research publication in bioinformatic. Journal club participants will present high-impact recent journal publications select by course instructors and learn how to read the paper, write critiques and organzie analysis insights into review papers. Student must show evidence of prior preparation prior to journal club and write crititques to show comprehension of the topic throughtot the semester. 
Pre-requisite is INFO 691/INFO 791 or Instructor's permission
