Interventional Nephrology

The mission of UAB interventional nephrology is to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with dysfunctional dialysis access. We strive to exceed quality benchmarks established by national guidelines (KDOQI/ASDIN) through expeditious coordination of tests and procedures, seamless communication with patients and dialysis providers, and use of latest and most effective technology. The common procedures performed by interventional nephrology faculty include:

  • Insertion and removal of tunneled and temporary hemodialysis catheters
  • Insertion and removal of peritoneal dialysis catheters
  • Angiograms/fistulograms
  • Angioplasties
  • Mechanical and pharmacological  fistula and graft thrombectomies
  • Fibrin sheath removal from intravascular portions of tunneled dialysis catheters
  • Accessory vein coling/ligation
  • Kidney biopsies
