Congratulations to the Nephrology Faculty and Trainees who attended the AHA Hypertension and Kidney Council Meeting.  Dr. Jennifer Pollock was awarded the Harriet Dustan Award.  Dr. Joshua Speed won the junior faculty poster presentation award.  Dr. Bryan Becker was awarded the post-doctoral fellow poster presentation award.  Dr. Eman Gohar won a new investigator travel award and Drs. Dr Vineeta Kumar, recently attended the annual Schwartz Center dinner. The Schwartz Center's mission is to promote compassionate care so that patients and their caregivers.  Dr. Kumar is one of the Schwartz Center Rounds Physician Leaders, the rounds helps support the healthcare provider by giving them a structured platform to discuss and communicate issues in relation to their patients.  Attached is video of the 20 years of the Schwartz Center History

Recent Publications for the Division for July, August and September 2014.

Congratulations to Drs. Subhashini Bolisetty and Ravindra Boddu as well as Travis Hull for their excellent presentations at the 8th International Conference on Heme Oxygenase, BioIron and Oxidative Stress meeting on October 8th through 11th.  Dr. Bolisetty won the Award for Best Abstract for and Early Career Post-Doctoral Scientist for her talk "Macrophage and epithelial cell H-ferritin expression regulates renal inflammation".  Dr. Boddu won the Award for Best Oral Presentation for and Early Career Postdoctoral Scientist for his talk "LRRK2 deficiency leads to impaired hemoglobin recycling with altered kidney and macrophage homeostasis".  Travis Hull won the Award for Best Abstract for a Student with his talk titled" Heme Oxygenase-1 Expression Regulates Trafficking of Myeloid Cells in Acute Kidney Injury". Congratulations to these departmental scholars.

UAB will be hosting a Mini-Symposium on Fabry Disease and Polycystic Kidney Disease: Prospects for Improved Care. This symposium will be held at the Finley Compass Bank Conference Center (behind Kaul Genetics Building) on Wednesday November 18th starting at 10am.  Please see the list of speakers and topics covered here.
