Recent Publications for the Division for July, August and September 2014.

Congratulations to Drs. Subhashini Bolisetty and Ravindra Boddu as well as Travis Hull for their excellent presentations at the 8th International Conference on Heme Oxygenase, BioIron and Oxidative Stress meeting on October 8th through 11th.  Dr. Bolisetty won the Award for Best Abstract for and Early Career Post-Doctoral Scientist for her talk "Macrophage and epithelial cell H-ferritin expression regulates renal inflammation".  Dr. Boddu won the Award for Best Oral Presentation for and Early Career Postdoctoral Scientist for his talk "LRRK2 deficiency leads to impaired hemoglobin recycling with altered kidney and macrophage homeostasis".  Travis Hull won the Award for Best Abstract for a Student with his talk titled" Heme Oxygenase-1 Expression Regulates Trafficking of Myeloid Cells in Acut Kidney Injury". Congratulations to these departmental scholars.

UAB will be hosting a Mini-Symposium on Fabry Disease and Polycystic Kidney Disease: Prospects for Improved Care. This symposium will be held at the Finley Compass Bank Conference Center (behind Kaul Genetics Building) on Wednesday November 18th starting at 10am.  Please see the list of speakers and topics covered here. Core Concepts in Kidney Research Course Starts May 5, 2014

The Second Annual Joint Symposium in Transplantation was held at the Emory Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta GA on Friday March 21, 2014.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Allon on being award the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology Gerald Beathard Award.  This award is presented in recongnition of teaching excellence, scholarly activity and clinical excellence.

Congratulations to Division of Nephrology Postdoctoral Scholars on their outstanding presentations at the 2014 Postdoctoral Research Day.  Dr. Subhashini Bolisetty was awarded first place and Dr. Ravindra Boddu was awarded third place in their session.  Dr. Colin Reily, a trainee on the Division of Nephrology Training Grant was awarded first place in his session.  Congratulations to all the Postdoctoral scholars who presented. Division of Nephrology members Drs. Clement, Macé and Chugh have recently published in the journal Nature Medicine.

The 3rd Annual Dale J. Benos Memorial Seminar will be held in the Finley Auditorium in the Kaul Building on Wednesday December 4th at Noon.

Dr. James Schafer, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology was recently interviewed by the American Physiology Society as part of the Living History in Physiology series.
