Pediatric MEG Scans Print E-mail

The MEG lab does perform scans on pediatric patients; however, the same screening procedures for adult patients also apply to pediatric patients.

In addition, sedation services must be arranged for pediatric patients, and this requires a little more planning, so additional time is usually required to make scheduling arrangements.

Conscious sedation is provided to patients 12 years of age or under and to those patients with developmental delays or to those with some movement disorders. This is not total sedation administered intravenously that renders a patient unconcsious; this is sedation administered orally intended to reduce anxiety and promote a motionless scan.

The MEG Lab maintains a close relationship with The Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama and its Pediatric Neurosurgery Program.
