Dr. Edward Faught has had a long and distinguished career as a neurologist. He is a native of Jasper, Alabama. He received his A.B. degree from Harvard University and M.D. degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in epilepsy and EEG at the University of Virginia Hospital. Dr. Faught joined the UAB Department of Neurology in 1980. In 1981, he founded the UAB Epilepsy Center.
Dr. Faught has several titles including: Director of the UAB Epilepsy Center, Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Director of the EEG Laboratories at University of Alabama Hospital, and Director of the Clinical Pharmacology Research Program. He also has an impressive military career since 1973 with the U.S. Army Medical Corps, accumulating many honors and citations over the years. His current title there since 2003 is Colonel and Command Surgeon, 81st Regional Readiness Command (over 8 Southeastern states).
Dr. Faught also has a very long list (too long to list) of national and regional activites he is involved with and is a member of 10 professional societies. He is an Ad Hoc Reviewer for 11 national and international journals and is a contributing editor of "Antiepileptic Drugs" for Epilepsy Currents
, the official journal of the American Epilepsy Society. Dr. Faught was board certified in neurology in 1980 by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has hospital staff privileges with four hospitals in Alabama.
Dr. Faught has an impressive record of publications including 180 publications in national and international journals, 12 book chapters, 12 published Letters and book reviews, and over 250 abstracts. He has written and prepared educational material for audiences of physicians, pharmacists, and patients.
