Dr Suswam is engaged in an active basic science research focusing on the regulation of growth factor expression by RNA binding proteins in malignant gliomas. Dr. Suswam obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1986) and Master of Science (1992) degrees at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She received her Ph.D. in molecular parasitology from the University of Edinburgh in 1998. She completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology in the Department of Geographic Medicine at UAB and then joined the Department of Neurology as a Research Associate, in the laboratory of Dr. Peter H. King, in 2001. She completed 3 years of specialization in molecular genetics and was promoted to a Research Assistant Professor position in 2004. Dr Suswam was appointed Assistant Professor of Neurology on July 1, 2006.
