Welcome

The West laboratory is housed in the John A. Jurenko Parkinson’s Disease Research Laboratory in the Civitan International Research Building in the heart of the medical school campus at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The laboratory is in newly renovated space built in 2008, and recently expanded into additional renovated space in 2012.

The mission of the laboratory is to identify critical pathogenic mechanisms in neurologic diseases like Parkinson’s disease, develop new and relevant systems the model these mechanisms and develop new therapeutics that will address the immediate critical needs of those affected with disease.

This ambitious mission is realized only through a large multi-disciplinary effort. Active collaborations and partnerships include:

-         The UAB Movement Disorder Center and the associated world-class neurologists
