Four students were selected from UAB School of Medicine as Albert Schweitzer Fellows for the 2020-21 class.
Alabama Schweitzer Fellow, Autumn Beavers MS2, is collaborating with Carver High School’s Academy of Health Sciences program in the 2019-2020 school year to implement a curriculum that increases students’ exposure to professional health careers.
The School of Medicine is currently undergoing a gender equity review for faculty members. This process will ensure that all of our faculty are being paid fairly, regardless of their gender.

Erik P. Hess, M.D., MSc, has been named interim chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine, effective December 1, 2019. Janyce Sanford, M.D., MBA, who currently serves as chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, is stepping down from the role on the same day.

Created in 1996, the Argus Awards give medical students the chance to honor their mentors, professors, courses and course directors for outstanding service to medical education. 
Bruce R. Korf, M.D., Ph.D., was recently named associate dean for Genomic Medicine in the School of Medicine. Korf currently serves as UAB Medicine’s chief genomics officer and holds the Wayne and Sara Crews Finley Endowed Chair in Medical Genetics. He will continue to hold both of those positions along with his new appointment.
