In the last feature of our 2022 Pride Month series, the Department of Medicine has collaborated with the Heersink Office for Diversity and Inclusion to shine a light on how the school is working to expand the perspectives of its medical students through the Health Equity Scholars (HES) program.

KeAndrea Titer, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and clinician for the Hospital Medicine Service, has been awarded the 2022 Dean’s Excellence Award for Diversity Enhancement.  

J. Edwin “Ed” Blalock, Ph.D., professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, has been awarded the 2022 Dean’s Excellence Awards in Mentorship.  

The Office for Diversity and Inclusion has partnered with the Department of Medicine to highlight the exemplary work of pioneering women in the school today, like the all female-team of cardiologists who are forging a new specialty field bridging heart health and cancer care.

Rebekah Weil, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and director of the Internal Medicine Residency Health Disparities Track, has been awarded the junior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Teaching.

Steve Stigler, M.D., associate professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, has been awarded the senior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

Turner Overton, M.D., professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been awarded the senior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

Carlie Stein Somerville, M.D., assistant professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, has been awarded the junior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

Rachael Lee, M.D., MSPH, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been awarded the junior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

Seth Landefeld, M.D., professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine, has been awarded the senior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Diversity Enhancement.
