The National Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center for African American Men’s Health (NTCC), led by the University of Minnesota and UAB, invites applications for community-based research projects on disparities in unintentional and violence-related injuries, mental disorders, and chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer, especially prostate cancer, in African American men across their life course. The Mid-South Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center for Health Disparities Research (Mid-South TCC), led by UAB in partnership with Jackson State University, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Louisiana State University, and Dillard University, invites applications for community-based research projects on disparities in obesity, with a focus on pathways to obesity and related chronic diseases and the mechanisms connecting these pathways to health disparities throughout the course of life. UAB will hosts its 9th annual Health Disparities Research Symposium Thursday, March 20, 2014, highlighting the work of faculty and student investigators in the areas of basic science, clinical and translational science, social and behavioral sciences, outcomes research, and community-based research related to health disparities. Encouraged submission topics include: bio-physiological mechanisms of health disparities, behavioral mechanisms of health disparities, social determinants of health and community-based approaches to health.
