Who are we?
The Office of Communication works with colleagues in UAB Media Relations and the UAB Health System to produce stories for and about the students, residents, faculty and staff of the UAB School of Medicine. We also oversee web design and communications for external websites throughout the school.
Clinton Colmenares, Senior Director of Communications
Clinton is responsible for creating and executing the communication strategy for the School of Medicine. He joined UAB in 2010 as director of Media Relations, and joined the School of Medicine in 2012 to create his position and the Office of Communications under then-Dean and Senior Vice President Ray L. Watts. Clinton is a native Texan who worked as a medical reporter for newspapers in San Antonio, Montgomery, Ala., and Nashville. He has also worked in media director roles for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the University of Maine and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Kerry Gorelick, Ph.D., Web Communications Manager
Kerry manages digital communications for the School of Medicine. Before coming to UAB in 2012, Kerry worked at the National Institutes of Health in the Office of Extramural Research where she produced digital content, including podcasts, newsletters, and the Rock Talk blog. Kerry received a PhD in cellular and molecular medicine from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She began her off-the-bench career writing and editing health communications for the public.
Jeremy Gordinier, Web Design
Jeremy designs and edits web pages for the UAB School of Medicine. He previously worked at Alabama's 13 in Birmingham and graduated from UAB with a degree in philosophy in 2003.
Kendra Carter, Web Content Coordinator
Kendra produces and edits content for the School of Medicine and manages social media. Kendra cut her teeth at Alabama newspapers, covering various beats as a reporter at the (Talladega) Daily Home, the (Scottsboro) Daily Sentinel and the Gadsden Times, before joining UAB in 2013. She graduated in 2008 from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
