Kong named 2017 recipient of Odessa Woolfolk Community Service Award

RS13228 Michele Kong 7RT scrMichelle Kong, M.D., associate professor of Pediatric Critical Care in the Department of Pediatrics, has been named the 2017 recipient of the Odessa Woolfolk Community Service Award. This award was established by UAB to recognize one of its faculty who has rendered outstanding service to UAB's community.

Kong joined the School of Medicine faculty in 2008. She and her husband, Julian Maha, M.D., are cofounders of Kulture City, a Birminhgam non-profit organization specializing in providing direct assistance to children with special needs and their families. In 2015, Kong was recognized for her work in the community as a junior faculty winner of the Dean's Excellence Awards in the School of Medicine.

A formal ceremony honoring Kong and this year's recipients of the President's Awards will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. at the UAB Alumni House.
