Kendra produces and edits content for the School of Medicine and manages social media. Kendra cut her teeth at Alabama newspapers, covering various beats as a reporter at the (Talladega) Daily Home, the (Scottsboro) Daily Sentinel and the Gadsden Times, before joining UAB in 2013. She graduated in 2008 from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Chad Steele, Ph.D., professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, has been named assistant dean for Research Administration, a new position in the School of Medicine created to facilitate successful onboarding for faculty.
Herbert Chen, M.D., an internationally recognized surgeon-scientist and medical educator, has been named chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief of UAB Hospital.
Jianyi “Jay” Zhang, M.D., Ph.D.,  a national leader in myocardial bioenergetics, biomaterial and stem cells for cardiac repair, has been named the chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, a joint department in the Schools of Medicine and Engineering.
Nine outstanding faculty members were named recipients of the Dean’s Excellence Awards, an honor recognizing exceptional contributions made by School of Medicine faculty in service, teaching, research, diversity enhancement and mentorship.
