Jean Ann Larson, Ed.D., joins the UAB Health System and the UAB School of Medicine effective April 1, 2016, in the newly created position of Leadership Development Officer.

As part of UAB Medicine’s senior leadership team, Larson will report to Health System CEO Will Ferniany, Ph.D., and UAB School of Medicine Dean Selwyn Vickers, M.D.. The LDO is expected to be a key driver of performance for both entities and a catalyst for positive culture transformation throughout UAB Medicine. Her key responsibilities include fostering leadership abilities among both clinical and non-clinical staff to help them better contribute to UABHS and UAB School of Medicine goals.

“Jean Ann brings a dimension to our growth that we are missing,” Ferniany said. “We need a strong leadership development program to meet the challenging needs of today’s health care environment.”

An executive business consultant and learning and organizational development professional, Larson has extensive experience in designing and implementing successful programs in the health care industry. She is the founder of Jean Ann Larson & Associates, a Dallas-based management consulting firm, and she most recently served on the executive education program faculty for Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business in Dallas. During the past 20 years she has held multiple leadership positions with Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Beaumont Hospitals in Michigan.

Larson holds a doctorate in organizational change from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., and an MBA in international management from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management in Glendale, Ariz. “Dr. Larson brings a wealth of experience in health care leadership development and training,” Vickers said. “She will be a tremendously valuable asset to our institution and instrumental in our growth.”
