Connections Support Group

UAB Connections provides a combination of educational, social, and recreational/leisure activities for adults with various eye disorders as well as their family and close friends. UAB Connections aims to help participants develop a peer support network to help improve eye health, quality of life, and maximize independence.

In addition to regular group meetings held at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, UAB Connections also plans recreational activities in the community.

Group meetings of UAB Connections cover topics including: education regarding eye health, eye diseases, cutting edge research updates, coping strategies for adjustment, adaptive and environmental strategies for home and community settings, stress management, and tips for how to talk to your doctor and communicate with family and/or the public about your vision.

Participants can attend as many or as few meetings as they'd like, depending on which topics they find interesting. There is no cost to participate and UAB Connections would like to thank the International Retina Research Foundation for their generous support which funds the group.

UAB Connections is directed by Laura Dreer, Ph.D.
