As part of the educational mission of the Center for Palliative and Supportive Care, the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum is offered through the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care. The curriculum is designed to advance end-of-life nursing care, but can be beneficial to other disciplines as well, such as social workers and chaplains.


Nine modules which include topics on nursing care at end of life, preparation and care at time of death, pain management, ethical/legal issues, cultural considerations, communication, symptom management, quality of care and grief, loss and bereavement. The modules are presented by members of the UAB Center staff and the School of Nursing who are certified trainers in the ELNEC curriculum.

Upcoming Courses

The next ELNEC training course will be held July 16-17, 2015 at Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium at UAB. For more information about this course, please contact Jackie Palmore at  or 205.975.0826.

Registration is $40 for UAB nurses and $125 for non-UAB nurses. CE credits include 12.4 contact hours ABN, 10.33 contact hours ASNA/ANCC. Fee includes continental breakfast and lunch, contact hours and materials.
