Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy

Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy

Specimen Procurement and Diagnostic Interpretation

Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNA) is an accurate, rapid, non-invasive, cost-effective technique for the diagnosis of neoplastic, non-neoplastic and infectious processes.

Palpable Lesions

Cytopathologists are available to perform FNA for neck, thyroid, breast, palpable lymph nodes and other superficial lesions. The pathologist sees the patient, performs and interprets the aspirate. This service is available for in-patients and The Kirklin Clinic outpatients. Patients are scheduled for an FNA procedure by referral of their primary care provider or specialist.

Non-Palpable Lesions

The FNA service also supports Endoscopic, Radiologic and Mammagraphically guided FNA with rapid evaluation for adequacy, resulting in more efficient patient care.

Advance scheduling is requested for these procedures.
