Renal Pathology Services

The faculty members of UAB Renal Pathology Service would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our web site and introduce you to our biopsy service.  Our laboratory is a comprehensive, computerized service that processes approximately 800 renal biopsies per year. About 25% of these are renal transplant biopsies.

Standard light microscopy, direct immunofluorescence and electron microscopy are performed on virtually all biopsies. Special immunohistochemical staining is also available if needed. In most cases we provide a 48 hour turnaround time. All urgent or significant diagnoses are immediately relayed by telephone to the referring clinician.

Our laboratory fees are billed directly to the patient or their insurance company, using the information supplied on the consultation request form. When specifically requested, we bill to the referring entity. We also accept Medicare and Medicaid assignment.
