PGY-I INTERNSHIPS

Prerequisite requirements for PGY-I applicants:

a. Attainment of an M.D. degree
b. Eligibility for limited Alabama Medical License
c. Participation in the National Resident Matching Program, if applying prior to the match.

Prospective residents who meet the above requirements must submit the following:

a. Completed application documenting undergraduate and medical training
b. Dean's Letter
c. Certified medical school transcript
d. Three additional letters of reference from faculty members of the medical school granting the M.D. degree. These letters should attest to personal qualifications and to scholastic and clinical capabilities

Application materials must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  The Director of Pathology Residency Training program will review the applications in concert with the Departmental Residency Selection Committee.  An interview will be scheduled if the applicant is felt to be an appropriate candidate. The interview will consist of individual meetings with members of the Pathology Residency Selection Committee, other faculty, and current Pathology residents.

PGY-II, PGY-III, & PGY-IV POSITIONS

Prerequisite requirements for applications for positions at the PGY-II level and above include:

a. Attainment of an M.D.degree.
b. Successful completion of an acceptable PGY- I year at a fully accredited institution.
c. Eligibility for Alabama Medical License.

Prospective residents who meet the above requirements must submit the following:

a. Completed application materials
b. Documentation as noted for the PGY- I positions
c. A letter of recommendation from faculty member supervising the applicant's current year of clinical training or the last previous year of clinical training.

Applicants for PGY-II positions and above are not required to participate in the National Residency Match Program.
