BMT Research

InptNursesStation2Research leads to new discoveries and better practice

Physicians and researchers at the Children's Hospital of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham conduct numerous clinical research projects in hope of improving the lives and prognosis for children with cancer, bone marrow failure syndromes, sickle cell disease, and other diseases.

We are a participating member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG), the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN), and the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium (PBMTC).  These are cooperative groups which conduct clinical trials nationwide.  In addition, outstanding laboratory research at Children's of Alabama and UAB provide the foundation for a number of innovative studies. Patients in the BMTU are often eligible to enroll in these studies.

Evidence Based Practice

Unit Standard Operating Procedures and patient treatment maps are developed using evidence based practice. Evidence based practice is the use of research and scientific studies as the foundation for determining best practice when making clinical decisions.
