UAB graduates are leaders in their fields. Department chairs, residency program directors, division directors, biomedical researchers, NIH Study Section Chairs, journal editors, a past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics and countless community pediatric leaders got their start in the UAB residency program.
Overall, since 1980, 60% of UAB graduates have entered general pediatric settings while 40% have entered academic, subspecialty practice.
Our Rotations by Year Break Down as Follows:
Intern Year
- 2 months of General Inpatient Pediatrics
- 2 months of Emergency Medicine
- 2 months of NICU
- 2 month of Subspecialty Selective
- 1 month of Newborn Nursery
- 2/3 month x 2 of Night Float
- 1 week of Advocacy and Injury Prevention
- 1 months of Outpatient Pediatrics
- 3 weeks of Vacation and a Holiday Week
Second Year
- 1 month of General Inpatient Pediatrics
- 2 months of Emergency Medicine
- 1 month of NICU
- 2 months of PICU
- 2 months of Subspecialty Selective
- Heme/Onc, Pulm, Neuro, Endocrine, Allergy/Rheum, Infectious Disease, Cards, Renal
- 1 month of Adolescent Medicine
- 1 month of Behavior and Development
- 2/3 month of Night Float
- 1 month of Call-Free Elective
- 3 weeks of Vacation and a Holiday Week
Third Year
- 2 months of General Inpatient Pediatrics
- 1 months of ER c ER float
- 1 month of NICU
- 3 months of Subspecialty Selectives
- Heme/Onc, Pulm, Neuro, Endocrine, Allergy/Rheum, Infectious Disease, Renal, GI, or Cards
- 1 month of Health Department
- 2/3 month of Night Float
- 1 month of Outpatient Selective ( SSC/CP/Away Practice)
- 2 months of Elective
- 3 weeks of Vacation and a Holiday Week
