How do I adjust my poster’s slide size in PowerPoint?

If you don’t adjust the size of your PowerPoint slide, it will automatically print to scale for a regular 8”x11” page. Before you start designing your poster, adjust the slide size to avoid scaling issues later.

To change the size of your slide:

  1. Open PowerPoint and click on File.
  2. In the File dropdown menu, click on Page Setup.
  3. In the ‘Slides sized for’ dropdown menu, select Custom.
  4. Enter the dimension in inches in the Height & Width fields, and click OK. Don’t forget to save these changes.
*A window will open that states your page size exceeds your printing capacity. Click “OK” to close

I can’t find Page Setup. Are there other ways to access Page Setup?

There are a few places in PowerPoint where you can find the Page Setup depending on your software version and operating system. If you don’t see your operating system and/or version below, follow the directions above.

  3. In the ‘Slides sized for’ dropdown menu, select Custom.
  4. Enter the dimension in inches in Height & Width, and click OK. Don’t forget to save these changes.
*A window will open that states your page size exceeds your printing capacity. Click “OK” to close

Mac 2011:

  1. Click on the Theme tab.
  2. Click on Page Setup button (on left).
  3. In the ‘Slides sized for’ dropdown menu, select Custom.
  4. Enter the dimension in inches in Height & Width, and click OK. Don’t forget to save these changes.
*A window will open that states your page size exceeds your printing capacity. Click “OK” to close.

What's next?

Design your poster, but be careful to review it thoroughly before sending it to the poster printing service center.

Before sending your poster to print:

  • Proof poster text. Fix or hide all formatting, spelling, and grammar marks (green and red markings under words) because they can appear on posters depending on the format.
  • Make sure all the text and graphics fit on the poster. Poster content that is hanging off the slide will be cut off upon printing.
