Kazu Nakazawa, M.D., Ph.D., Joins UAB PsychiatryThe Department is delighted to announce the recruitment of Kazu Nakazawa, M.D., Ph.D., to the UAB Department of Psychiatry. He currently serves as Chief of the Unit of the Genetics of Cognition and Behavior Department at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH/NIH), where he has worked for the past ten years. Dr. Kazu received his medical degree and Ph.D. from Keio University in Tokyo, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the prestigious RIKEN institute in Japan. He next moved to the Picower Center for Learning and Memory at MIT where he was a postdoctoral fellow of Susumu Tonegawa. He moved to NIH following these postdoctoral fellowships. His research uses a number of cutting edge research techniques, and has focused on molecular substrates of learning and memory and most recently animal models of major psychiatric disorders including schizophrenia. His laboratory office will be located on 11th floor of the Shelby building.
