DescriptionHistone methylation-mediated epigenetics in memory
Farah D. Lubin, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Neurobiology
University of Alabama at Birmingham
Objectives: (1) To understand how basic science researchers are studying epigenetic mechanisms during the process of long-term memory (LTM) formation; (2) To understand how gene activation and silencing are targets of epigenetic mechanisms in post-mitotic neurons; (3) To understand that epigenetic histone methylation mechanisms plays important roles in memory and synaptic connectivity in the adult brain; and, (4) To understand how dysfunction in this process likely gives rise to cognitive deficits.
