Monica L. Baskin, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Associate Scientist in the UAB Clinical Nutrition Research Center and UAB Minority Health and Research Center. She is also a Scientist in the UAB Diabetes Research Training Center and Member of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. She obtained a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology from Emory University and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University and is a licensed professional psychologist. Her primary research interests involve the improvement of minority health and the reduction of health disparities. Specific health topics include obesity, diabetes, cancer, and sickle cell disease. She is skilled in designing, implementing and evaluating theory-based and culturally-competent interventions, as well as conducted community-based participatory research.
