1) Recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Substance Abuse:
The Psychiatry Department at UAB invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Substance Abuse working with criminal justice involved clients. Ongoing NIH projects include studies using combination pharmacotherapy and behavioral therapy for the prevention of opioid relapse, as well as fMRI and MRS studies of nicotine and substance abuse. Other areas of research interest include HIV and HCV prevention. Opportunities to gain experience in both neuroimaging as well as clinical trials is available. The fellow would be expected to participate in writing NIH grants as well as papers for publication from existing data sets and ongoing projects. Mentoring in grant writing and publications is available to transition the fellow to an independent scientist position in an academic medical setting. The ideal candidate would be a doctoral level clinical or counseling psychologist (Alabama license or license-eligible preferred) who is dedicated to an academic medical research career in the area of substance abuse. In addition to writing papers and grants, the fellow would be expected to participate as a member of a team of psychologists and physicians conducting clinical research, as well as participate in limited clinical responsibilities (20% clinical time). 2) Recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Community Psychiatry Program (AIMHS Center for Program Evaluation Research) POSITION IS CURRENTLY FILLED, BUT WILL REOPEN NEXT YEAR:
The Department of Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry Program at UAB is seeking to fill a postdoctoral fellowship positions for a psychologist with interest in community mental health and program research in the Division of Public Psychiatry. The selected candidates will be a member of the recently established Alabama Institute for Mental Health Services, a mental health services center of excellence. AIMHS faculty and staff will assist with implementation and evaluation of current and future state-wide initiatives in evidence-based programs for a range of community mental health services. Program evaluation and basic mental health intervention research expertise is an essential qualification for applicants. A portion of the fellow’s time will be spent in a similar capacity with the Alabama Coalition for a Healthier Black Belt (ACHBB) project. The fellow will work under the supervision of the project director and will work directly with the AIMHS and ACHBB project managers. The trainee may also pursue additional grant funding and play a role in the expansion of the institute and in furthering mental health system change, at the state level. Licensure or license eligibility and clinical experience with the serious mentally ill population are desired. Clinical duties are available within the UAB Community Psychiatry Program. These would include conducting psychological and neuropsychological evaluations as well as individual and group psychotherapy Opportunities exist for supervision with clinical psychology interns, graduate students, medical students and other mental health trainees.

Fellowship Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and have a strong interest in a scientist-practitioner career. Licensure in the state of Alabama will be required and should be pursued immediately upon acceptance of the fellowship.
