F. Cleveland Kinney Fund for Advancement in Geriatric Psychiatry
During his 25-year medical career at UAB, Dr. F. Cleveland Kinney has provided outstanding medical care while adhering to the highest standards of professionalism and compassion. His expertise in geriatric psychiatry and his love of teaching gross anatomy have proved a tremendous asset to the UAB community and to our department. Over the years, Dr. Kinney’s many accomplishments as a teacher, clinical researcher and clinician have earned him outstanding accolades and awards including Teacher of the Year for region 7 by the Association of Academic Psychiatry, Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and the Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents from the American Psychiatric Association’s Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning.
Dr. Kinney will leave his mark on the UAB community through his numerous leadership roles over the years, including Interim Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, Division Director of Geriatric Psychiatry, and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs for the School of Medicine. Dr. Kinney is one of the most accomplished and distinguished academicians and clinicians at UAB. He is also a proud alumnus of the university having received his Doctor of Philosophy in Anatomy, with an emphasis in Neuroanatomy, from UAB in 1976 and then taught Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy at UAB before earning his Doctor of Medicine from the School of Medicine in 1985.
