Dr. Cheryl McCullumsmith Elected President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Alabama Chapter
Dr. Cheryl McCullumsmith was recently elected to serve as President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Alabama Chapter, following Dr. Dan Dahl who previously held this office. The AFSP is the leading national non-profit organization solely dedicated to advancing the understanding and prevention of suicide through education, scientific research, and advocacy.
The Alabama Chapter originated in 2006, with its first Out of the Darkness Community Walk event in Birmingham. These walks have been ranked in the top 5 events nationwide every year and have provided funds for many important suicide prevention programs for our state, including research grants to the department. In 2010, the Alabama Chapter received awards for Top Chapter in the Nation and Excellence in Education. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology would like to congratulate Dr. McCullumsmith and thank Dr. Dan Dahl for his many contributions and achievements in this capacity.
