The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is advancing the understanding of psychiatric disorders through an integrated approach of research, education, and patient care. Collaboration between laboratory research and clinical areas facilitate translational integration of research findings, with the goal of developing innovative and novel clinical interventions.

Advancing knowledge discovery in schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder, neurodegenerative disorders, substance abuse, and psychiatric disorders of childhood and the elderly

 Providing state-of-the-art care through a 90-bed inpatient facilty, community-based clinics, and other patient focused programs
