Dr. Hoyt attended Drexel University where he received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (2001), M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering (2004), and a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering (2005). Dr. Hoyt joined the Radiology Department at UAB in 2008 following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester. Dr. Hoyt's research focuses primarily on ultrasound-based imaging and related technologies with potential to translate to clinical applications. Additionally, Dr. Hoyt has a strong interest in biomedical instrumentation, biomedical signal and image processing, and multi-modality imaging methods. Current research initiatives revolve around development of novel strategies for characterizing and imaging the viscoelastic (i.e., biomechanical) properties of soft tissue in healthy, injured, and/or diseased states. Another aspect of Dr. Hoyt's research involves contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging with a focus on the associated bioeffects, contrast agent targeting, and the potential for localized drug delivery.
