Research and Clinical Description

Dr. Spalding was on the UAB faculty for seven years, attaining the position of Associate Professor of Medicine, Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Deputy Director of the Multipurpose Arthritis Center. He also served as Acting Division Director for 9 months while Dr William Koopman was on sabbatical. After leaving in 1986 he practiced with Watson Clinic in Lakeland, FL for 12 years. Subsequently, he practiced for 10 years with Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates in Melbourne,FL. He returned to a full time UAB faculty position in August 2008. Dr. Spalding has authored and co-authored more than 40 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and reviews concerning basic immunology and rheumatology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and American College of Rheumatology and has served on two committees of the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Spalding is a recipient of the Arthritis Foundation Investigator Award and has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” since 1999.
