The UAB Division of Neurosurgery Mission

The mission of the UAB Division of Neurosurgery is to:

1) Provide outstanding care to patients with neurosurgical diseases.

2) Educate and train competent, compassionate, proficient, and expert neurosurgeons and neuroscientists and provide them with opportunities for teaching, research, scholarship and service.

3) Make valuable and innovative contributions to the field of Neuroscience through a diverse, rigorous enduring clinical and laboratory research effort.

4) Forge partnerships and reach out to our community to improve health and quality of life throughout the state, nation and the world.

Our goal is to position ourselves within the top 20 Neurosurgical institutions nationally in the next five years and reach the top 10 by 2020. Successful execution of our mission will make us the premier neurosurgical institution in the United States and internationally.  Significant strides forward were made in 2010 when UAB's Division of Neurosurgery ranked 31st in the nation in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

The UAB Strategic Plan

The University of Alabama at Birmingham works toward six primary goals - initially introduced in its 2003 strategic plan - with a set of accompanying scorecards to ensure that the university is accountable to the state it serves. This plan promotes excellence in six primary areas - undergraduate education, graduate education, research and scholarship, community support, service to community, and work environment. The Division of Neurosurgery within the Department of Surgery seeks to confirm its commitment to the strategic plan as reflected in its Mission Statement.
