Laryngology Fellowship Program

The UAB Laryngology Fellowship will provide clinical experience and will includeinstruction in trans-oral laser surgery of benign and malignant disease, open and transoral airway reconstruction, and all forms of minimally invasive office care. Professional voice care, the evaluation of dysphagia, and the diagnosis and medical management of laryngopharyngeal extra-esophageal reflux disease will also be taught.

Care Techniques and Surgical Training to be offered:

Office Techniques:

  • Trans-nasal Esophagoscopy
  • Trans-nasal and Trans-stomal Bronchoscopy
  • Laryngoscopy with therapeutic injection and biopsy
  • Laryngeal Stroboscopy
  • Esophageal Motility and pH-metry
  • Office Laser Surgery

Operative Trans-oral Laser Microsurgery of Benign and Malignant Disease Techniques:

  • Therapeutic Bronchoscopy with Dilation and Debridement
  • Open and Trans-oral Laryngoplasty and Tracheoplasty
  • Micro-Laryngeal Phonosurgery
  • Open Phonosurgery including Medialization Laryngoplasty, Arytenoid Adduction and other forms of Laryngeal Framework Surgery
  • Segmental Tracheal and Crico-Tracheal Resection with Primary Reanastomosis
  • Bedside Airway Surgery including Percutaneous Tracheostomy and Gastrostomy
