Anterior Skull Base Program
The Anterior Skull Base Program provides state-of-the-art care for diseases of the paranasal sinuses and anterior skull base. This is a multi-disciplinary skull base program that focuses on minimally invasive techniques for sinus and skull base pathology. Our physicians take a targeted, comprehensive approach to treatment of skull base tumors that focuses on minimally invasive procedures, including endoscopic surgery and radiation, but also provides expert treatment using open surgical approaches when required. This is the only multi-disciplinary minimally invasive skull base program in Alabama and northern Florida.
Our goal is to provide the highest and most advanced level of care to patients with inflammatory, infectious, and neoplastic diseases of the sinuses and skull base with a focus on benign and malignant sinonasal tumors, anterior skull base lesions, pituitary resections, CSF leaks and encephalocele repair. The center performs greater than 200 endoscopic surgeries per year. We use state-of-the-art endoscopic equipment and advanced monitors. We provide complete management of the complicated patient and are the major referral center for Alabama and the surrounding regions for these disorders.
Clinical research interests of the faculty include outcomes regarding techniques to repair large skull base defects and cerebrospinal fluid leaks, advanced computer-assisted training technology for endoscopic procedures, and methods to improve patient comfort following skull base tumor resections.
All of the clinical faculty members of the center are certified as Diplomates of the American Board of Otolaryngology or Neurological Surgery.
