Thomas Novack, PhDProgram Director, The University of Alabama at Birmingham Traumatic Brain Injury Model System (UAB-TBIMS)
Dr. Novack is a Professor in the UAB Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Novack is the Director of Psychology Services at Spain Rehabilitation Center and holds joint faculty appointments in the Department of Psychology and the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center and the UAB Center for Outcome Measurement. His research has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health, and NIDRR. He was the Project Director of the TBI Clinical Trial Network site at UAB, funded by NIH, which concluded its work in 2011. He continues working as an investigator on an NIH sponsored study focusing on medical decision making following TBI.
Dr. Novack’s clinical work focuses predominantly on TBI. He assesses and treats people who are inpatients and outpatients, representing a range of severity of injury. Over the past five years he has authored 19 scholarly works (another 2 are in press) in the area of head injury, authored 3 book chapters, and presented 6 invited addresses at national meetings. In addition, he serves on the Alabama Head Injury Task Force and the Board of Directors of the Alabama Head Injury Foundation (he is past President of the organization). He has been a Board Examiner for the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology and is a Fellow in the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Novack serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation and is an invited reviewer for multiple other journals.
