UAB's Teams won 7 ballots and gained valuable experience as the teams advance their mission to be AMTA's 2010-2011 National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa (the National Championship Tournament will be held April 15-17, 2011). In addition to UAB's Teams' success, Katherine Hall, Captain of Gold Team, with a rank of 19/20, received an individual Best Attorney Award for her portrayal as an attorney representing the Plaintiff in this case. This was Ms. Hall's second individual award since joining UAB's MT Team last year. During last year's Regional Competition, Ms. Hall received an Outstanding Witness Award with a rank of 17/20 for her portrayal of an crime scene investigator expert in a criminal case. UAB's Mock Trial Team also competed at MTSU's 21st Annual Mid-South Mock Trial Invitational. MTSU has been conducting Mid-South Mock Trial Invitationals for almost as long as MTA has been governing intercollegiate mock trial competitions. Each year, MTSU hosts approximately 70 teams from all across the nation. As a result, MTSU must break these teams up into two separate divisions in order to conduct a 4-round invitational in one weekend. UAB's Green and Gold Team were both in Division I and UAB's Gold Team placed 5th in this Division of 34 teams. Divison II had 30 teams for a total of 64 teams competing at MTSU's MSMTI. Over the course of MTSU's MSMTI, UAB's Mock Trial Teams won ballots against the following teams: MVSU, SMU, SC, MTSU, UTC and HUCMS.. UAB's Teams won 11 of the 16 ballots with their Green Team having a final record of 5-3 and Gold Team a final record of 6-2. In addition to the outstanding performance by our teams, we had 3 team members who received individual awards for their outstanding performances at MTSU. Kayla Sellers, with a rank of 19/20, received an Outstanding Witness Award on Defense for her portrayal of Blake Lexington, the Owner and CEO of defendant HappyLand Toy Company. Ms. Sellers has een a member of the UAB Mock Trial Team for two competitive seasons. Grady Lowman, Captain of Green Team and teammate of Kayla Sellers, received an Outstanding Attorney ard with a rank of 19/20 on Defense. Mr. Lowman has been an invaluable member of the team since he began his Mock Trial Career during the 2007-2008 season. Since that me, he has served the team in various capacities, including Captain of the Green Team for the 2009-2010 season and during the Fall of 2010. Mr. Lowman has received several Attorney ardsMr. Lowman's second Outstanding Attorney Award came during MTSU's 20th Annual Mid-South Mock Trial Invitational in 2009 again with the rank of 19/20 on Defense. Finally, aKatherine Hall, Gold Team Captain, again proved how much of an asset she is to the team by receiving her second Outstanding Attorney Award of the 2010-2011 Season with a perfect rank of 20/20 on Plaintiff. Ms. Hall was one of only two attorneys in Division I of MTSU's MSMTI and one of only 3 in the entire Invitational to receive a perfect rank of 20/20. |
