Artist Willie Cole will serve as juror for the 2011 Juried Student Annual exhibition during his residency at UAB.

The best artwork created by art studio majors at UAB will be featured Nov. 11-Dec. 3, 2011, in the 2011 Juried Student Annual exhibition, presented by the UAB Department of Art and Art History.

juried_storyThe UAB Juried Student Exhibition invites all students enrolled in studio art courses at any level in the previous year to submit up to three works for consideration. The exhibition is judged without the juror being familiar with the student or their work. Of the approximately 300 works submitted each year, about 50 are selected for display. The exhibition will feature works selected as the best by artist Willie Cole, the 2011 juror. Past jurors have included Tom Eccles, Robyn Donohue, Mirko Ilic, Christopher Saucedo, Peter Baldaia and David Rubin.

A free reception is planned 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the UAB Visual Arts Gallery, 900 13th St. South. The reception is open to the public. Call 205-934-0815 for information. The gallery is closed on Sundays and will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24-26, for Thanksgiving.
