ASC Jazz Café presents Lalah Hathaway in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Born to Donny Hathaway, one of the most influential soul artists of the ’70s, and classically trained vocalist Eulaulah Hathaway, Lalah became interested in music at an early age. By 2004, she had delivered her fourth album, “Outrun the Sky,” garnering her first No. 1 single, a cover of Luther Vandross’ “Forever, For Always, For Love.” Her fifth studio album, “Self Portrait,” includes a Joe Sample duet that she co-wrote and co-produced. ASC Holiday Comedy Show starring Mo Rocca
, 8 p.m., in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Co-presented by UAB’s Alys Stephens Center and public radio WBHM 90.3 FM. Rocca makes your spirits even brighter as the humorist, actor and writer uses razor sharp wit to dissect everything “holiday.” For part of the evening he will also be joined on the stage by facilitator and wellspring of local knowledge, Birmingham-native and Mental Floss magazine co-founder Will Pearson. Best known for his off-beat news reports and satirical commentary, Rocca is currently a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning News with Charles Osgood, a panelist on NPR’s hit weekly quiz show “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” and the host of “Foodography” on The Cooking Channel. Rocca spent four seasons as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and four seasons as a correspondent on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Free FaLaLaLaLa Holiday Bash begins at 6:30 p.m. with live music, drink specials, trivia games and more. ArtPlay presents “Yuletide in Dogtown,” shows at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. This interactive musical journey for the whole family is back by popular demand. Join Spike, Fifi, Scotty and Beauregard on this musical adventure created by local playwright Jerry Sims, as the pups learn the real meaning of the season.
