Free LOCAL festival featuring live music June 16

Celebrate summer and all things Alabama with the Alys Stephens Center’s outdoor, family-friendly festival.

local webShop, eat and enjoy live music at the fifth annual LOCAL, a free celebration of Alabama’s best, Saturday, June 16.

Kick off summer with this outdoor, family-friendly festival presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. Alabama artisans, artists, vendors and food trucks will be on-site, and a series of live musical performances will entertain onstage in the center’s Engel Plaza. The event is sponsored by Alabama Power.

The fun will start at 5 p.m. Food trucks on-site will include Big Spoon Creamery, City Bowls and Red Mountain Crawfish.

The evening’s entertainment lineup will feature bands led by women: musical artists Chelsey Whild, Kate and the Howlers, Banditos, and Love Moor. Love Moor is a neo-soul singer whose music can be described as alternative R&B, with elements of soul, hip-hop, minimalist R&B, a little flow, and some island flavor. The emcee is Shaun Judah, with DJ RyNea Soul.

Vendors will include Anthony Tavis Folk Art, BB’s Bread, Bham Artsy Chicks, Birmingham Henna, Bylineco, Chicken & Sweets Southern Yard Bird, Earth Creations, Eastaboga Bee Co.,

Happy Bird Co., Ivory Leshore Gourmet Bread Pudding, Lindsay Brook Designs, Lula Woodworks, Naughty But Nice Kettle Corn, Night Owl Paper Goods, Piper & Leaf,
