Hispanic children typically have more fat mass than white or black children, even if they have a similar BMI. There may be a genetic component, and UAB researchers are looking for genetic factors associated with excess fat deposition in Hispanic children.
The study, funded by the UAB Minority Health Research Center, will look for potential interventions to minimize the effect of other lifestyle factors that may influence obesity.
