Sandra Sims, Ph.D., an assistant professor for the UAB Physical Education Program in the School of Education Department of Human Studies, has been named a top educator by the National Center for Sports Safety. The center awarded Sims a Certificate of Appreciation on Aug. 26, 2010. The award is reserved for outstanding local leaders who raise awareness and enhance the community by promoting sports safety education. Officials with the Center for Sports Safety say Sims and the Physical Education Program at UAB are committed to the implementation of statewide initiatives that improve sports safety awareness at all levels.
